DroneShield (ASX:DRO) has opened a research and development facility in Adelaide, expanding its Australian engineering footprint as demand grows for counter-drone and electronic warfare capabilities.
The company said the Adelaide hub will provide dedicated software development and dry laboratory facilities for engineers working on embedded systems, sensing, communications, software and electronic warfare technologies. The facility adds to DroneShield’s existing Australian R&D operations in Sydney.
The opening was marked by a ribbon-cutting attended by South Australian Minister for Defence and Space Industries Chris Picton MP. DroneShield said the location is within a nationally recognised innovation precinct and is intended to support development of its next generation counter-drone and electronic warfare technologies.
DroneShield chief executive Angus Bean said the Adelaide office was aimed at expanding research and development capability and accessing engineering talent in a major defence and technology hub.
Picton said the facility would create skilled jobs and support local innovation, describing the move as a positive signal for South Australia’s defence industry.
DroneShield said the Adelaide team will contribute to technology development intended to address current and emerging operational requirements, and described the hub as part of ongoing investment in “sovereign” defence technology development in Australia for domestic and international customers.
