German Chemical Plant increases handling capacity and reduces freight costs and lead times with 3D-Touchless finger scanning technology from Touchless Biometric Systems.
CHEMPARK, Leverkusen, Germany, has 3 sites located in the center of Europe’s chemical market and is one of the largest chemical parks in Europe.
Project GATE is the solution to manage increasing transport volumes at plant gates, with limited infrastructure capacity and higher demands on security in chemical plants for Chemion, Bayer and LANXESS.
The result was the establishment of a standardized solution based on three components: the vehicle control system FLOW from star/trac, the 3D biometric technology from TBS and the i-CHEM IDENTEC SOLUTIONS wireless RFID technology.
Pre-registered vehicles and transport components are automatically detected prior to entry to the plant. Without getting out at check-in terminals, the drivers quickly identify themselves with their identification card and biometrics. The biometric identification is done with the three-dimensional and contact-free finger scanning technology from TBS capturing a high amount of detail and therefore recognizing even the most difficult driver’s fingers.
Processing was automated directly at the plant gates with RFID technology and real time process control. All in all, it resulted in over one hour turnaround time saving for the incoming and outgoing plant traffic at each of the three CHEMPARK sites translating into an immediate increase in productivity and a quick payback.
Since it is a clear benefit for both, the chemical plant as well as for the freight forwarders, Project GATE is poised to be extended to other sites.
Switzerland is famous for its unmatched stability and security making it a paragon worldwide. It is TBS’ mission to bring Swiss security standards to the world. TBS offers biometric devices made in Switzerland and complete solutions for a large variety of biometric applications in access control and time & attendance. TBS 3D-Touchless finger scanning technology is worldwide unique. The three-dimensional and contact-free sensor technology captures the highest possible quantity of fingerprint details, guaranteeing significantly higher security than any other biometric system. Contact-free solutions qualify in particular for higher risk, large user groups or hygienically sensitive applications.
Touchless Biometric Systems has built a strong presence and reference base worldwide. Every day, globally, more than 1 Million people are using TBS terminals.
“The GATE project is very Important for Bayer MaterialScience to increase our competitiveness and reliability” said Mark Rübenstrunk, Bayer MaterialScience.
