DroneShield says it will expand its open counter-drone architecture to include AIM Defence’s Fractl high-power laser effector, adding a directed-energy option to its existing ecosystem of RF sensing, electronic warfare and command-and-control capabilities.
The companies said the move is intended to support “layered” counter-drone designs, where multiple sensors and defeat mechanisms can be combined and integrated without replacing existing infrastructure. The integration is being pursued through a collaboration with Australian directed-energy company AIM Defence.
DroneShield said its DroneSentry operational platform will be made interoperable with the Fractl system, allowing operators to coordinate RF sensing, software, sensor fusion, command-and-control and directed energy through a common operating environment.
In a statement, DroneShield chief technology officer Angus Harris said customers are increasingly focused on combining technologies into a single operational capability that can adapt as threats change. AIM Defence director of strategic initiatives Jenelle Frewen said directed-energy counter-drone adoption is accelerating and that the collaboration is expected to support demonstrations, interoperability work and potential deployments.
Initial engagement will focus on selected military and government end-users, the companies said, to explore opportunities where interoperability between their offerings can support mission-critical counter-drone environments.
