Meteksan Defence outlines MİLSAS synthetic aperture sonar for high-resolution seabed imaging

Turkish defence company Meteksan Defence has detailed its National Synthetic Aperture Sonar (MİLSAS), describing it as a system designed to produce high-resolution images of the seabed and underwater targets.

According to the company, MİLSAS uses synthetic aperture sonar techniques by coherently combining multiple narrow-aperture sonar measurements collected along a platform’s motion path to create a wider “synthetic” aperture. Meteksan Defence says this approach is intended to overcome the resolution limits of conventional sonar and generate more detailed underwater imagery.

Meteksan Defence said the system applies high-frequency acoustic signal processing and is aimed at supporting use cases including mine detection, seabed mapping, inspection of underwater infrastructure, energy exploration and change detection.

The company also said it is pursuing international collaboration through production partnerships and technology transfer initiatives as part of its broader export ambitions.
