Exail has secured a new contract for its long-range uncrewed surface vehicle (USV), the DriX H-9, with a defence research organisation, according to the company.
The USV will be delivered by Exail and then equipped by the customer for counter-unmanned aerial system (CUAS) missions. Exail said the platform will integrate sensors intended to detect, track and mitigate aerial threats, using CUAS technology first developed for land platforms and adapted for the maritime environment.
Exail said this is the second DriX H-9 order in recent months for a defence application, signalling growing interest in uncrewed surface vessels for defence use cases.
In a statement, Marine Slingue, President of Exail Defense Systems Inc., said the contract reflects the role uncrewed surface vessels may play in future defence concepts and that adapting the DriX series to CUAS is part of extending the platform to new missions.
