TrafficGuard has appointed Scott Thomson as head of AI, tasking him with expanding the company’s use of artificial intelligence across its ad verification and invalid traffic detection platform.

Thomson brings more than 10 years’ experience in technology and AI roles, including stints at Google, Adobe and Telstra, and is the founder of strategic consultancy SCRYPTID. The company said he has also served as a non-executive director since early 2024.

TrafficGuard said Thomson will oversee the execution and integration of AI into its platform and internal processes, as digital advertisers contend with more sophisticated forms of fraud. The company is positioning the role as central to accelerating product development and commercial execution, including tools designed to monitor, detect, analyse and respond to invalid traffic.

In a statement, TrafficGuard CEO Mat Ratty said the appointment was intended to advance the company’s “AI roadmap” and support delivery of fraud prevention capabilities to advertisers globally.

Thomson said the “AI arms race in ad fraud” is intensifying, with fraudsters using agentic bots and generative AI to evade detection at scale. The press release described agentic AI as autonomous bots capable of browsing, clicking and mimicking genuine user behaviour, making them harder to identify using conventional verification approaches.

The company linked the appointment to broader growth plans, citing recent expansion in the United States and the appointment of chief product officer Miguel Lopes. It also said it plans to significantly expand its team as it targets new verticals and channels.

The announcement did not include financial details or specific product release timelines.
