Databricks Collab With Meta to Set New Standard in Open-Source AI

Databricks has announced a collaboration with Meta to launch LLaMA 3, which it says is a new standard in open-source AI and will improve the capabilities and accessibility of AI tools for developers and businesses worldwide.

“I believe open source AI will become the industry standard and is the path forward,” said Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. “Partnering with Databricks on Llama 3.1 means advanced capabilities like synthetic data generation and real-time batch inference are more accessible for developers everywhere. I’m looking forward to seeing what people build with this.”

Databricks is already a close partner of Meta, and one of very few platforms that provide clients with the full suite of functionality on top, ranging from model evaluation, tool use, agentic workflows, and continued pre-training. With Llama 3.1 natively integrated within Databricks, Databricks customers can:

  • Build high-quality GenAI applications without compromising on ownership and customisation;
  • Simplify the application-building process;
  • Use Mosaic AI to serve and fine-tune the Llama 3.1 models, connect them seamlessly to retrieval augmented generation (RAG) and agentic systems; and
  • Easily generate synthetic data for their use cases, and leverage the models for scalable evaluation.
