Bigmate Launches Real-Time AI Defect Detection Powered by Equinix

Bigmate has partnered with Equinix to support the deployment of its Anomaly and Contamination Identification System (ACIS), an AI-driven quality analysis platform designed for use in industries such as food processing, manufacturing and logistics. The system is being hosted within Equinix’s Sydney International Business Exchange data centre, enabling Bigmate to maintain Australian data sovereignty while accessing the scale and connectivity required for real-time AI processing.
ACIS uses computer vision and machine learning to identify defects, contaminants and production inconsistencies as products move through manufacturing lines. The approach reverses conventional AI training methods by teaching the system to recognise “good” production outcomes, allowing it to detect irregularities without requiring extensive datasets of defective samples. Its deployment requires low-latency processing, secure interconnection and access to cloud environments for model training and analytics.
Equinix’s infrastructure provides Bigmate with private connectivity pathways through Equinix Fabric, allowing secure links between edge devices, cloud providers and customer networks. Equinix Internet Access adds dual-port resiliency for managing variable data volumes and maintaining stable performance during peak analysis periods.
Bigmate, traditionally known for workplace safety systems in high-risk sectors such as mining, construction and manufacturing, has expanded its AI capabilities to include real-time operational intelligence. Its broader portfolio includes collision-avoidance systems, terrain-hazard detection, warehouse monitoring tools and an AI analytics platform used to generate actionable insights from sensor and vision data.
The company currently supports customers in Australia, including BMA, Infrabuild, Etex Group, Visy and Coronado Global, and operates in the United States with clients such as Ascend and Tyson Foods. Bigmate reports low false-positive rates in its AI detection systems, aided by the stability of Equinix’s infrastructure.
Equinix’s national footprint includes 11 Certified Strategic Facilities or Strategic Enclaves across Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Perth, providing secure environments suitable for sensitive data and government-aligned requirements. Globally, Equinix operates more than 270 data centres across 36 countries, enabling Bigmate to extend its ACIS platform to customers in North America and Europe as part of its planned international rollout.
Executives from both organisations said the partnership aims to ensure consistent performance, support data integrity requirements and enable flexible scaling as real-time AI quality analysis becomes more widely adopted across industrial environments.
