Bittium Wireless Ltd., a subsidiary of Bittium Corporation, and Safran Electronics & Defense SAS have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore cooperation on tactical communications solutions for the French Ministry of Defence and the French Armed Forces.
The companies said the signing took place at the Finnish Embassy in Paris, and is intended to provide a framework for assessing potential cooperation in France over the next two years.
Under the MoU, the parties will examine combining Bittium’s tactical and secure communications capabilities with Safran’s work in integrated soldier systems and related defence technologies. The stated focus is on possible needs of French defence programmes.
Areas identified for joint exploration include ground-based air defence networking, counter-drone communications, communications for unmanned systems, mission networking, dismounted soldier radio and secure communications.
The MoU runs for two years and is intended to support assessment of deeper cooperation options, including potential joint development, production and commercialisation of solutions in France.
Tommi Kangas, Senior Vice President at Bittium Defence & Security, said France was a strategically important market for the company and pointed to Safran’s position as a local supplier to the French Armed Forces.
