EdgeCortix and Kawasaki Heavy Industries have signed a multi-year agreement to develop AI-enabled aerial defence systems, with work spanning technology development, system integration and prototype platform development through 2028.
The companies said the teaming agreement covers a program valued at “several million” US dollars in aggregate across 2026 to 2028. The collaboration will include feasibility studies alongside development and integration work, and may expand if technical milestones are met and additional opportunities emerge.
Under the arrangement, EdgeCortix is expected to contribute its chiplet-based AI computing platform and its MERA compiler and software framework. The companies said the aim is to support edge AI processing for mission systems where power, latency and reliability constraints are significant factors.
In a statement, EdgeCortix founder and CEO Dr Sakyasingha Dasgupta described the deal as an expansion of its relationship with Kawasaki and said the companies intend to accelerate development of “intelligent, adaptive and energy-efficient” mission systems.
The announcement highlights continuing investment in edge AI for defence applications, where processing closer to sensors and platforms is often positioned as a way to reduce latency and reliance on communications links, while meeting size, weight and power limits typical of airborne systems.
