DroneShield Limited (ASX:DRO) has announced the launch of RfRecon, a portable radio frequency (RF) intelligence device aimed at defence and security users operating in complex electromagnetic environments.
The company said the handheld system is intended to help operators sense, identify, locate and assess RF activity from a single device, combining ultra-wideband spectrum awareness, precision direction finding and signal intelligence powered by its RfAI-3 architecture.
DroneShield positions the product as part of a broader counter-uncrewed systems (C-UxS) and electronic warfare capability set, as demand grows for tools that can interpret spectrum activity in operational context rather than simply collect data. The company cited increasing RF complexity driven by uncrewed systems, electronic warfare and wider wireless communications.
In a statement, CEO and managing director Angus Bean said: “The electromagnetic spectrum has become one of the most important sources of operational intelligence on the modern battlefield, but collecting data is no longer enough. The teams that gain the greatest advantage will be those that can rapidly understand what they are seeing and confidently act on it. RfRecon reflects that shift by bringing RF intelligence directly to the tactical edge.”
DroneShield said RfRecon is designed to operate across dismounted, vehicle-mounted, expeditionary and fixed-site use cases, and to integrate into existing command-and-control environments. The company said it supports industry-standard data transfer and can connect with tools such as ATAK, third-party command-and-control platforms and other sensors.
The company said initial engagement has begun with “qualified defence, government and security customers worldwide”. Subject to procurement timelines, DroneShield said orders and revenue contribution could begin in the second half of 2026, though it did not quantify expected sales and said it would provide guidance when available.
