Rotron Aerospace has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with South Korea’s LIG Nex1 to jointly advance next generation unmanned aerial system capabilities, marking a significant new partnership in UAV propulsion and platform development.
The UK-based defence technology company, which specialises in propulsion systems, engines and unmanned aviation platforms, formalised the agreement at its Dorset headquarters. The MoU establishes a long-term strategic collaboration running until 2032 and centres on the Medium UAV Common Platform programme, as well as derivative projects and a broad range of Republic of Korea and international initiatives where Rotron’s aero propulsion systems can be applied.
Under the partnership, Rotron and LIG Nex1 will cooperate on development, integration and testing, combining Rotron’s propulsion technologies with LIG Nex1’s strengths in system architecture and platform integration. The companies aim to accelerate development timelines, enhance sovereign capability and position themselves for growth across Korean, Pacific Rim and global export markets.
Rotron Aerospace CTO and founder Gilo Cardozo said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing unmanned aviation performance and reliability. “Rotron is proud to partner with LIG Nex1, a company whose reputation for defence excellence is known worldwide. This agreement reflects our commitment to delivering high performance propulsion and aviation systems that enhance the capability, reliability and operational reach of next generation unmanned platforms. Together, we will bring forward innovative solutions that support both national and allied defence requirements.”
Yoon Kwan Seob, Vice President of the Aerospace & Drone Business at LIG Nex1, said the combined expertise of the two companies will support both domestic and international opportunities. “LIG Nex1 looks forward to a strong and mutually beneficial collaboration with Rotron Aerospace. By combining our experience in integrated system development with Rotron’s leading propulsion technologies, we aim to advance the Medium UAV Common Platform and expand opportunities for both domestic Republic of Korea programmes and international exports.”
With demand for advanced unmanned systems continuing to grow across global defence markets, the partnership provides both companies with a stronger foundation to develop competitive, high performance UAV capabilities for national programmes and export customers in the Pacific Rim, Europe and further afield.
