Singapore’s Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) and France’s Icarus Swarms have signed a collaboration agreement to co-develop capabilities in autonomous control of multiple unmanned systems (UxV). Through this partnership, DSTA aims to harness Icarus Swarms’ expertise in autonomous swarming to enhance the Singapore Armed Forces’ unmanned capabilities.

Announced during the Paris Air Show, the collaboration will focus on developing smart algorithms for autonomous control of multiple UxVs and integrating those algorithms onto different UxVs. Both parties will jointly explore solutions to improve communications resiliency. They will also co-develop and test how UxVs can autonomously detect and respond to objects of interest, enabling warfighters to make informed decisions swiftly.

“As the security landscape continues to evolve, the ability to harness autonomous technologies is cardinal,” said DSTA Land Systems Director Alex Lee. “This partnership will allow DSTA to develop innovative solutions that will help the SAF achieve mission success.”

“We believe that tomorrow’s defence capabilities will be shaped by autonomous, adaptable, and mission-specific systems,” said Icarus Swarms’ Chief Research Officer Serge Chaumette. “That’s why we are committed to developing drone swarms that are not only intelligent but also modular, capable of carrying the right sensors and payloads for each unique operation. We look forward to this partnership with DSTA.”
