Tesla Demonstrates Autonomous Driving Capabilities

Car manufacturer Tesla has released footage of its vehicles driving autonomously from the factory to designated loading dock lanes without any human intervention.

The footage, released on X this week, showed the cars making their way along the almost two-kilometre route without incident.

“Unsupervised full self-driving begins,” said CEO Elon Musk, who has long advocated autonomous driving but has been hampered by safety regulators and technical glitches.

Last year, he unveiled the company’s Robotaxi, Cybercab, and announced plans to bring autonomous driving to its Model 3 and Model Y cars by 2025.

Musk’s latest timeline is “unsupervised self-driving in California and Texas around Q2 2025.”

However, he has been dispensing short-term time frames on autonomous driving since 2018, none of which have borne out. It is widely accepted that it will be several years before regulators allow autonomous driving on public roads in the United States. Nonetheless, this week’s incident-free demonstration of the capability won Tesla plenty of plaudits.
